This journey is designed to balance roadtripping South Africa and covering all the juicy bits of the country. Start your adventure in the Magaliesburg before embarking on a guided overland tour of the Free State and the Drakensberg Mountains while making your way to Durban.

After a couple nights in eThekwini, you’ll be surrounded by the wilderness of Northern KwaZulu-Natal where you will track Africa’s iconic Big 5 within the Manyoni Private Game Reserve. Jump back into your car for chapter 2 of your road trip, this time along the famous Garden Route. Explore the regions of Tsitsikamma, Knysna, Oudtshoorn and Plettenberg Bay.

Your finale take you into the Western Cape, home to The Mothercity — Cape Town. Spend 4 nights exploring this vibrant city bursting with culture, history and natural beauty. Journey along the Cape Peninsula, up the iconic mountain and keep your finger on the pulse with walking foodie and cultural tours of the city centre.

Travel up the west coast to the Cederberg to reconnect with your inner world at Bushmans Kloof where you can gain insights into Bushman Rock Art and view wildlife that is indigenous to the more arid regions of South Africa. Finish your travels through the country by spending your final two nights in the winelands of Stellenbosch where you can immersive yourself in their incredible diversity of farms and wines.

FULL ITINERARY

DAYS 01 & 02 — JOHANNESBURG / CITY

 

Welcome to Mzansi, that’s what we call South Africa here. upon arrival, your driver will transfer you your little oasis in Magaliesburg for your first two nights. One your first full day we’ll have you exploring Johannesburg’s art and food culture as well as some history thrown to offer you some context of the streets you’re exploring.

DAY 03 — CLARENS / ROADTRIP

 

Start your overland / guided road trip from Johannesburg into the Free State. Stop by in the little town of Clarens for a bit of yesteryear vibes. Discover dinosaur footprints in the Golden Gate National Park.

DAYS 04 & 05 — DRAKENSBERG / MOUNTAINS

 

Travel further down into the Drakensberg, stopping at the stunning Royal Natal National Park to take in the Amphitheatre and view the 2nd highest waterfall on Earth. Spend the night at Antbear Lodge and engage with the owner and the community who will introduce you to their culture and folklore.

DAYS 06 & 07 — UMHLANGA ROCKS / CITY

 

Explore the Midlands Meander stopping by at the world renowned ceramics gallery at Ardmore and drop in at the craft foodie spots at Piggly Wiggly before arriving in Durban. The next day will see you exploring the city of Durban with a local guide, tasting the food, walking through local markets and visiting handpicked galleries.

DAYS 08 TO 10 — MANYONI GAME RESERVE / SAFARI

 

Had enough of people? Time for the wilderness! Head out bright and early to one of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier Big 5 game reserves — Manyoni. Settle in at Rhino Sands and strap in for 3 nights of authentic adrenaline rushing game drives tracking Africa’s iconic Big 5.

DAY 11 — GQEBERHA / GARDEN ROUTE

 

After all that wildlife, it’s time for another road trip. Board a short afternoon flight to Port Elizabeth before picking up your vehicle and checking into your overnight hotel.

DAYS 12 & 13 — PLETTENBERG BAY / GARDEN ROUTE

 

Journey down to Plettenberg Bay taking in the rugged, beautiful coastline. Explore Tsitsikamma National Park and Storm’s River. This is considered to be an adventure lovers paradise. On your full day in Plettenberg Bay, why not head down to Knysna, Sedgefield and Oudtshoorn.

DAY 14 TO 17 — CAPE TOWN / CITY

 

Board your flight to The Mothercity to start your Cape Town adventure. Check into the vibey Kloof Street Neighbourhood at Cape Cadogan which is soggy with atmosphere. Explore the city on foot and on guided tours with passionate locals over the next 4 nights.

DAYS 18 & 19 — CEDERBERG / FLORAL KINGDOM

 

Travel up the west coast of the Cape and into the rocky Cederberg region. Here you will check into Bushmans Kloof which is home to some of Southern Africa’s most exquisite Bushman Rock Art. Explore this stunning wilderness area which revolved around wellness and connection to nature.

DAYS 20 & 21 — WINELANDS / FOOD

 

Make your way back down to Cape Town but not before getting a little sidetracked by the winelands. Visit the incredible orchards and vineyards of Babylonstoren where you will spend 2 nights. Babylonstoren comprises 15 clusters spanning vegetable areas, stone and pome fruits, nuts, citrus, berries, bees, herbs, ducks and chickens, a prickly pear maze, and more.

DAY 22 — CAPE TOWN AIRPORT / FLIGHT

Enjoy a slow morning in the gardens of Babylonstoren and enjoy an indulgent breakfast at one of their two farm-to-fork restaurants. Your driver will then transfer you to Cape Town International Airport from where you can continue on your onward travels.
