Your journey starts surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg. Explore the mountains on foot taking in the staggering Amphitheatre before ticking off Tugela Falls — the 2nd highest waterfall on Earth. Spend a night in the city of Durban before heading north into the pristine Big 5 reserves of the Zulu Kingdom. Enjoy twice daily game drives and walking safaris within the Manyoni Private Game Reserve and learn more about wildlife conservation in the area.

Travel further north into the UNESCO wonderland that is the Isimangaliso Wetlands where you will explore the unique ecosystem of waterways, intertwined lakes, grasslands and ancient forests. It’s time to head to The Mothercity — Cape Town! Spend your final 5 days exploring the biodiversity and culture of Cape Town on tours led by local guides before finishing your trip in the rugged Cederberg area which just happens to be a treasure trove for Bushman Rock Art.

FULL ITINERARY

DAYS 01 & 02 — DRAKENSBERG / MOUNTAINS

 

Welcome to the Zulu Kingdom! Once you arrive at OR Tambo Airport, you will be transferred directly into the Drakensberg. Check in at Sasi Bush Lodge for 2 nights. The lodge is just around the corner from the famous Amphitheatre and Tugela Falls — the 2nd highest waterfall on the planet. Explore the area on foot or arrange a guided tour with a local guide to make the most of your time and to make sure you don’t miss the best bits.

DAY 03 — DURBAN / CITY

 

Durban is your half way stop between the Drakensberg and Hluhluwe (i.e. game reserves). But let’s not waste the moment. Embark on an immersive half day tour of the city, tasting her flavours and engaging with her culture. Visit an indigenous art museum as well as a local market before tucking into Durban’s famous street food.

DAYS 04 TO 06 — MANYONI GAME RESERVE / SAFARI

 

Next up is the pristine reserves of KwaZulu-Natal. Board your transfer to the Big 5 Manyoni Private Game Reserve and check into Mavela Game Lodge. Spend the next 3 nights tracking Africa’s iconic wildlife on twice daily game drives and bush walks with expert rangers (walking safaris are subject to availability).

DAYS 07 & 08 — ISIMANGALISO / WETLANDS

 

Kosi Forest Lodge is situated within iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first World Heritage Site. Experience the beauty of the unique surrounding ecosystem of waterways, intertwined lakes, grasslands and ancient forests by canoe, motorised boat or on foot over the next 2 nights. Snorkelling and tracking Leatherback & Loggerhead turtles are also not off the table.

DAYS 09 TO 11 — CAPE TOWN / CITY

 

Board your local flight from Durban to the Mothercity, Cape Town. Hit the ground running once you check in at More Quarters Neighbourhood Hotel which is designed to create a home away from home but in the middle of this vibrant city. Over the next 3 nights explore the Cape Peninsula, the foodie culture and history as well as an art tour of the city with local guides.

DAYS 12 & 13 — CEDERBERG / FLORAL KINGDOM

 

Head up the west coast and into the raw and rugged beauty of the Cederberg. Spend 2 nights at the relaxed Cederberg Ridge where you can choose from guided walks, mountain biking, rock art excursions, rooibos farm tours and sunset boat cruises as well as guided excursions of the Cederberg region.

DAY 14 — CAPE TOWN AIRPORT / FLIGHT

 

It’s your final morning in South Africa. Why not drop in at the V&A Waterfront for a spot of shopping before your flight (time permitting) or enjoy a slow morning in the winelands before heading to Cape Town International Airport from where you can continue on your travels.
