Before the race: Cape Town at your pace

Leave space for preparation while enjoying the Cape. Ask about relaxed sightseeing, a scenic Cape Peninsula outing or time in the Cape Winelands. We can adapt the walking, stops and driving time to fit your plans, or arrange experiences for companions while you rest.

The Cape experiences in our Garden Route, Cape Town and Winelands journey offer a starting point. Longer regional trips and strenuous mountain hikes are better placed well away from race day; choose gentle outings and downtime in the final preparation days.

Partners, families & supporters

Make the holiday work for everyone travelling with you. Partners, friends and families can explore culture, food and nature while the runner prepares or recovers. Tell us children’s ages, shared interests and any different activity preferences. Private arrangements can also suit running groups and their supporters.

Build a wider South African holiday

Arrive → explore gently → race → rest → Garden Route or safari → fly home. This is an idea for shaping your trip, not a fixed itinerary.

Start with Cape Town and the Winelands, then add the Garden Route, Kruger or the Cederberg. Our 16-day Garden Route, Cape Town and Winelands journey shows how several regions can connect. We can adapt the order, pace and activities around your race and available time.

Meet our guides and read how we plan travel around your interests.

After the marathon: choose your next chapter

Take time to rest, then enjoy a Winelands stay, coastal journey or safari. These are flexible extension ideas; your quotation will confirm nights, transport, activities and availability.

Connect your race trip with Kruger or Sabi Sand. Enjoy vehicle-based wildlife viewing and lodge downtime. We will plan connections around your dates and chosen reserve; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

A Garden Route journey

Take the scenic route through coastal towns, forests and lagoons. Explore the Garden Route and Tsitsikamma, with overnight stops to break up driving. Longer walks can be optional while you recover.

Cape Winelands escape

Settle into Stellenbosch or Franschhoek for scenery, food and unhurried time together. Ask us to adapt the Winelands experiences in our Cape and Garden Route journey for a relaxed stay before or after race day.

Cederberg & West Coast

Extend your holiday into the Cederberg for rock formations, San rock art and quiet landscapes. Discuss driving time and the walking involved at individual sites. Flowers are seasonal, rather than a guaranteed part of a May visit.

Cape Town Marathon travel FAQs

What can I do before the Cape Town Marathon?

Choose relaxed Cape Town sightseeing, a scenic Peninsula outing or a gentle Winelands stay, with time for your own preparation. Tell us your race commitments so we can avoid overfilling the days before the start.

What should I do after the Cape Town Marathon?

A relaxed Winelands stay, a Garden Route journey, a Cederberg escape or a safari can extend your trip. We can reduce walking and build in downtime according to your preferences.

Can I combine the Cape Town Marathon with a safari?

Yes. Ask about Kruger and Sabi Sand, or a wider journey with safari and the Garden Route. Travel times and connections need to be planned around your dates; no particular flight or lodge is guaranteed until confirmed.

Can my family tour while I prepare or recover?

Yes. Partners, families and supporters can have their own experiences as well as time together. Share children’s ages, interests and any mobility needs so we can tailor suitable options.

Can you arrange private travel and a longer holiday?

Yes. We build tailor-made South African journeys around your available time, interests and preferred pace. Tell us your arrival and departure plans, race dates and the places you would like to include.
